Description: Tells of a romantic episode in Philippine history. It shows Filipino life at the time of Magellan’s landing. It tells the love story between a native princess and dashing Spaniard and a brave datu. It shows the ways of friendship and warfare as early as 1521, and uses museum collections. It shows the first Filipino resistance against foreign invasion and marks the birth of Spanish invasion here. The first Christian mass is reenacted. Ancient sports and customs are related and wooing of native princesses are portrayed. Tells of Magellan’s landing and his efforts to win the friendship of native chiefs. It is the story of a native princess, Kamoning, who won the love of the musician Pigafetta and the brave Datu Mabagsik, Pigafetta’s friend. Mabagsik almost met heartbreak at Kamoning’s hand.
In a year (1939) of light musical in practically all the senses of the modern pictures, it stands out as the only picture with a serious mission back of it: the recreation for both old and young of that era in our history which has vanished with time. Authenticity never an important feature of local movies, is painstakingly striven for in Kamoning.
Shown at the Edugue Theatrical Circuit--Bellevue (Herran, Paco). Elite (R. Hidalgo, Quiapo), Lotus (Avenida Rizal), Prince (Legarda, Sampaloc), Alhambra (G. Tuason, Sampaloc). Cervantina-Filipina Studios is situated at Community Heights Subdivision, Muntinlupa. Publication: Tribune (Manila), June 6, 1940, 12-16
