Description: Shows among other phases of the guerrilla movement in the Philippines, the contribution of the stage show people to the movement.
Special highlights of the picture are the shelling and burning of Intramuros, the Fort Santiago massacre, the street fighting in Manila, the capture of Yamashita defense plans and the pre-arranged escape to the mountain fastness of Northern Luzon by guerrillas and representatives of Allied Intelligence Bureau.
The story is based on actual underground operations. Fernando Poe plays the intelligence operative...in the Filipino espionage during the Japanese Occupation. Fernando is the meek and humble stage show entertainer who lives a double life behind and off stage as the relentless counter-intelligence agent of the Manila underground.
Based for the most part on actual incidents in the life of Fernando Poe himself during the Japanese Occupation when he organized a stage group after his escape from the Death March. Disguised as an entertainer he became an active member of the 34th Division under the late Col. Alfredo Ramirez, and sent out intelligence reports to the 6th Military District of Brigadier General Macario Peralta Jr. The film also features the intelligence coordination between Poe and members of the Allied Intelligence Bureau who came to Manila by submarine. It is climaxed with the storming of Manila by joint American and Filipino forces, and the Fort Santiago and church massacres.
The film includes the story of a USAFFE officer Roberto who comes back after the war to find his sweetheart now a bride of Christ. Publication: Manila Times, August 11, 1946
